CITY:

Barcelona Granada Madrid

City attractiveness Because of its rich history, Barcelona is filled with landmark buildings and world-class museums. These include Antoni Gaudí's famed Sagrada Família, the Museu Picasso, the Gothic cathedral, and Les Rambles, the famous tree-lined promenade cutting through the heart of the old quarter. The foremost reason to go to Granada is to visit the magnificent Alhambra, one of the great sights of Europe, built by the Moors in the 13th century. As you walk the streets of Madrid, you never know what you'll find around the next corner -- a festive tapas bar, a wedding party spilling out of a medieval church, a pack of meandering troubadours.

Sunny almost every day from June to September, virtually no rain. July and August are very hot. Summers are hot, with highs sometimes reaching 104 F/40 C, but it's so dry that the heat is tolerable. Marbella has a charm and character all of its own and different to any other Spanish town or city. Salamanca is a city of many faces: cultural, monumental, dedicated to the service industry, university-oriented (with two universities and almost 40,000 students) and home to cattle breeders and matadors alike.
